ARCHIVE
In recent times we have been reminded not only of the eternal nature of the internet but also the ephemeral; as digital media is lost or deleted. Such in the case of MVT News archive that in June was removed by parent company Paramount “without warning, explanation or comment.” (Variety, 2024) and has caused the loss of 25 years of musical and popular culture history that will now be near impossible to retrace.
The current resurgence of physical media has shown a desire from consumers to physically experience written and recorded art – explained by the lack of sensory feedback from digital sources and the want to curate collections; the deletion of digital artefacts has highlighted not only the desire, but the need for physical collections of art, history, and culture to reference and document the advancements and complexities of the arts.
